History

1947

  • The GHQ confiscated the women’s dormitory of Kyoritsu College of Pharmacy (built in 1933) and began using it as officer’s quarters. It was the precursor of Shiba Park Hotel.

1948

  • Under the management of the Trade Agency, the Shiba Park Hotel began operating as a hotel for foreign trade delegations.
    Its managing trustee was Mr. Tetsuzo Inumaru, who was also the President of the Imperial Hotel at the time.

1949

  • It was then privatized, leaving the control of the Trade Agency, and resulting in the founding of Shiba Park Hotel Co., Ltd.

1951

1956

  • Completion of the (first) new building. It had 60 guest rooms, in total 137 rooms.
    It offered the American Plan: $5 per night with two meals included, and received favorable reviews. New Zealand’s competitive student rugby team stayed at the hotel.

1957

  • Jiro Inumaru joined the company as Representative Director.

1958

1960

  • Concluded a contract to manage the Hotel Kajima no Mori Lodge.
    Completion of the (second) new building. It had 78 guest rooms, in total 215 rooms.
    The Peking Mansion was opened inside the building.
    It was the first restaurant serving Chinese cuisine managed directly by a hotel in Japan.
    Jiro Inumaru was appointed Vice President.

1963

  • Concluded a contract to manage the Tokyo Golf Club cafeteria.
    Concluded a contract to manage the Kosaka Country Club cafeteria.
    Tetsuzo Inumaru was appointed Chairman and Representative Director.
    Jiro Inumaru was appointed President and Representative Director.

1964

  • The Peking Mansion Annex was opened inside the Tokyo Mono-rail building.

1965

  • Completion of the new banquet hall “Tsuru-no-ma”.
    The restaurant Primura was opened inside the (second) new building.

1966

  • The inaugural general meeting of Orient Chain Hotels was held.
    Nine hotels participated: Marine (Bangkok), Grand (Bangkok), First (Taipei), China (Taipei), Metro (Seoul), Imperial (Hong Kong), Fortuna (Hong Kong), Federal (Kuala Lumpur), and Shiba Park (Tokyo).
    The restaurant Primura was opened inside the Isetan- Shinjuku building.

1968

  • The Kajima construction tea room was opened.

1970

  • The Chinese restaurant Peking was opened inside the Imperial Hotel new mail building B1F.
    The new banquet hall “Ume-no-ma” was completed on the north side of the main building.
    Shiba Park Hotel celebrated the 20th anniversary of its founding.

1971

  • Western and Chinese delicatessen opened at the Hankyu Sukiyabashi store.
    The following year, three staff members were dispatched to the Sapporo Winter Olympic Games to work in the cafeteria in the athletes’ village.
    The Sagamihara restaurant “Montana” was opened

1972

  • Third new building completed. It had 126 guest rooms, in total 330 rooms.
    The steak restaurant “Primura” was opened on the first floor.
    The Chinese restaurant Peking was opened inside the Nagoya Kanko Hotel.

1973

  • The Chinese restaurant Peking was opened inside theSizuoka Seibu Department store.
    The founding of Park Company Co., Ltd.
    Renovated “Peking Mansion” and reopened as “Peking at Shiba Park”. The pub “Kings Road” was opened.

1974

  • The Chinese restaurant Peking was opened inside the Hotel Sendai Plaza.

1976

  • Main lobby renovation and banquet room expansion work completed.
    The new banquet hall “Sakura”, “Botan”, “Ran” and the tea room “Green Grass” was opened.

1977

  • Reception of students for entrance examinations broadcast by NHK (Feb. 29).
    Renovated “Shinjuku Primura” and reopened as restaurant pub “Poporo”.
    Concluded a contract to manage the Asahiga-oka Country Club cafeteria.
    Oxford University rugby team stayed at the hotel. (March 15~28)
    Scotland rugby team stayed at the hotel. (September 8~19)

1978

  • The Chinese restaurant Peking at Ginza was opened.
    Concluded a contract to manage the Sagami-ko Country Club cafeteria.
    France rugby team stayed at the hotel. (September 10~15)

1979

  • Provided hospitality for VIPs including Zhou Enlai’s widow and other delegates. (April 8~13)
    Celebration of the completion of the new building and opening reception. It had 173 guest rooms, in total 380 rooms.
    England rugby team stayed at the hotel. (May 7~21)
    Cambridge University rugby team stayed at the hotel. (September 10~25)

1980

  • Ceremony to celebrate and show gratitude for the 30th anniversary of the founding at Rose room.
    The Chinese restaurant Peking was opened inside theKaruizawa Manpei Hotel.

1981

1982

  • Provided hospitality for VIPs including Zhao Ziyang, Prime Minister’s party. (May 1~June 13)

1983

  • Beijing Imperial Hotel store moved to the basement floor with the construction of the new tower building.
    Visit by Crown Prince Naruhito for the Tokuokai.
    Chinese restaurant “Tian’an” opened in Osaka Terminal Hotel.
    Oxford University and Cambridge University rugby teams stayed at the hotel. (September 5~27)

1984

  • Completion of the construction of the annex building. It had 49 guest rooms, in total 400 rooms.
    France rugby team stayed at the hotel. (September 11~October 8)

1985

  • Concluded a contract to manage the KiyokawaCountry Club cafeteria.
    Completion of the renovation of guest rooms and Primula in the main building.
    Ireland rugby team stayed at the hotel. (May 14~June 3)

1986

  • President Jiro Inumaru received an award from the Director of the Kanto Bureau of Transport.
    The Chinese restaurant Peking was opened inside theOsaka Toyo Hotel.

1987

  • President Jiro Inumaru received an award from the Minister of Transport.
    New Zealand All Blacks rugby team stayed at the hotel. (October 18~November 3)

1988

  • Oxford University rugby team stayed at the hotel. (September 15~October 2)

1990

  • Completion of the renovation of restaurant “Four Seasons”
    Cambridge University rugby team stayed at the hotel. (March 18~April 2)

1991

  • Concluded a contract to manage the Kojun-sha cafeteria.
    Completion of the renovation of Lobby in the main building, opened business center.

1992

  • A permanent chapel was completed on the second floor of the annex.

  • The Chinese restaurant Peking Hiroo-Plaza was opened.

  • The first summer festival was held.

  • The Chinese restaurant Peking Saikan was opened.

    The Chinese restaurant Peking at Hotel Laforet Tokyo was opened.

1998

  • Launch of the Shiba Park Hotel website.
    Japanese Restaurant Hanasansho opened as a restaurant under direct management.

1999

  • 50th anniversary of Shiba Park Hotel

2001

  • The sushi restaurant “Hanasansho” was opened.

2003

  • The French restaurant “Tateru Yoshino” was opened.

2007

  • Completion of the renovation of the restaurant Peking at Imperial Hotel.
