In celebration of Hinamatsuri, our central staircase is adorned with traditional hina dolls and cascading tsurushi-bina - hand-stitched ornaments that began in the Edo period as heartfelt expressions of hope for a child’s happiness, later evolving into beloved regional traditions in Inatori, Yanagawa, and Sakata.
This year, we pair these suspended talismans with books, bringing together two forms of inheritance shaped by time - wishes sewn in cloth and stories carried through words.
Step into this quiet seasonal tableau and feel the gentle arrival of spring.
今年のひな祭りに合わせ、当ホテルではひな人形とともに「吊るし雛」 を中央大階段に飾っております。
吊るし雛の始まりは、江戸時代にまでさかのぼるといわれています。
当時、雛人形はとても高価で、裕福でない家庭ではなかなか手に入らないものでした。
それでも「生まれてきた子どもが幸せに育ちますように」という思いは、どの家も同じ。
お母さんやおばあちゃん、叔母さん、そして近所の人たちまでが少しずつ布細工の小さな人形をつくり、持ち寄って飾りにしたのが、吊るし雛の始まりだと伝えられています。
こうして、みんなの想いを紡いで作られた吊るし雛は、赤ちゃんのお守りとして大切に受け継がれてきました。
雛人形の代用品として生まれた風習は後に、 伊豆稲取（静岡）・柳川（福岡）・酒田（山形） を代表とする地域文化へと発展し、華やかな縁起物として全国に広まっていきます。
今年は、そんな吊るし雛を本とともに展示いたしました。
時代を超えて受け継がれてきた吊るし雛。
そして、時を越えて語り継がれる本。

Tale of Artisans Vol.17 “Yorokobi”

Shiba Park Hotel, known as a Library Hotel with a diverse book collection, presents Tale of Artisans, a seasonal exhibition celebrating Japanese craftsmanship through the lens of culture and story. For Vol.17, “Yorokobi,” we spoke with curator Nozomi Kinoshita of Brain Café Co., Ltd., about this edition devoted to New Year traditions.
Each December, Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa hosts the historic Toshi-no-ichi, also known as the Hagoita Fair, an Edo-period year-end market filled with auspicious decorations. Many of the ornamental paddles depict Kabuki characters, evoking the spirit of old Edo. This exhibition features oshie hagoita by Hagoita no Kogetsu, who also exhibits at the fair, including charming smaller “mame hagoita” pieces inspired by classic Kabuki themes.
Also on view is karakami, decorative paper introduced from Tang China. Once used to embellish poetry and later applied to sliding doors and screens, it is now reimagined for contemporary life in items such as New Year gift envelopes and art pieces that bring traditional beauty into everyday settings.

年の瀬に浅草寺で開かれる「歳の市（羽子板市）」は、江戸時代から続く年末の風物詩。歌舞伎の演目を題材にした華やかな羽子板が並びます。本展では、羽子板市にも出店する「羽子板の鴻月」による押絵羽子板や、愛らしい豆羽子板をご紹介します。
あわせて、中国・唐から伝わった加飾紙「唐紙」も展示。木版手摺りや砂子を用いた伝統技法を活かしながら、現代の暮らしに寄り添うポチ袋やアートパネルなどをご用意しております。
